Prenatal Care and Chiropratic

Pregnancy is a very special time for the entire family. However, with all these exciting new changes, a woman’s body undergoes a tremendous amount of transformation during these nine months.

Studies show that at least 50% of pregnant women experience lower back pain, and in many cases it is severe enough to impact their activities of daily living. Women also often experience:

  • Neck pain and headaches
  • Hip, groin and lower back pain
  • Siatica type pain (pain in legs and buttocks)
  • Pelvic and pubic pain and pressure
  • Cramping and muscle spasms
  • Wrist pain and carpal tunnel symptoms
  • Sleep disturbances and discomfort at night time

Many studies have shown that Chiropractic can help decrease pain in pregnancy and labour. Chiropractors can provide safe, effective and drug-free conservative care to relieve pain and improve function during pregnancy, labour and after birth. Our team of professionals will work with you to determine your specific needs and which techniques are best for your body, at any stage in pregnancy.

How can Chiropractic Care help?

Decrease back and pelvic pain/pressure: Gentle chiropractic adjustments, muscle and ligament release and gentle stretching techniques can help reduce pain and improve function.

Relieve tight, fatigued muscles: Our treatments often include soft tissue (muscle, tendons and ligaments) release techniques to help restore balance and relieve tight and tender muscles.

Address joint pain resulting from ligament laxity: Hormonal changes during pregnancy often result in ligament laxity or “hypermobility” of the joints. Gentle chiropractic adjustments, taping and stabilization techniques can decrease these symptoms.

Help prepare for childbirth: Our chiropractors can recommend safe, effective exercises and stretches to help prepare your body for the baby’s delivery.

Assist with a faster recovery: As part of a comprehensive plan of management, chiropractic treatment can help manage quicker recovery and address post-natal complaints and rehabilitation.

Webster Technique:

“Webster technique” is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The treatment is focused on restoring proper alignment and biomechanics to the pelvis. We use special pregnancy pillows that allow a pregnant woman to lie comfortably on the table, and a very gentle technique called the “Drop Table” that allows for safe, comfortable and effective adjustments during pregnancy.
