Registered Massage Therapy

Every visit with our Registered Massage Therapists (RMT’s) will be customized depending on your health history, current condition, future goals and massage preferences. Our therapists are are trained in a variety of treatment methods, allowing them to tailor your visit to aid with injury recovery, manage aches and pain, optimize performance, and promote general well being and relaxation.

What is massage therapy?

The regulated practice of massage therapy is the assessment of soft tissues of the body for the treatment and prevention of injury, pain and underlying dysfunction.  In British Columbia, Registered Massage Therapists undergo extensive training in the treatment and prevention of injury, pain and physical disorders though the manual manipulation of structures of the body such as ligaments, tendons, connective tissue, muscles, blood vessels, organs and other soft tissues.

Our RMT’s are licensed and registered in British Columbia so you can be assured our therapists:

  • Have mandatory continuing education and upgrading.
  • Are linking research to practice, including providing evidence-based patient education and remedial exercises.
  • Have a specialized program at an accredited college.
  • Have completed the BC registration exams set by the College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC) and must continue with post-graduate continuing education to maintain registration.
  • Honour a strict code of ethics set by the CMTBC, ensuring patients receive safe, competent, and ethical care.
  • Are covered under most insurance plans.

What can I expect from my first visit?

Health History:  At your first appointment, you will complete a detailed questionnaire for your RMT about your health history.  This will allow you and your therapist to discuss any pertinent information or concerns prior to beginning care.

Evaluation:  After completing the past health history, your RMT will perform a physical examination which includes range of motion, loading or stressing the tissues in area of complaint and other functional tests.  Your therapist will then use both the history and evaluation to provide you with an individual treatment plan to help you reach your goals of care.

Treatment: Treatment will be included in your first visit so please wear clothing loose fitting and comfortable clothing.
